Your own blood, put back to work on your skin
Platelet-rich plasma is made by taking a small sample of your blood and spinning it so that the platelets, and the growth factors packaged inside them, are concentrated into a smaller volume of plasma. Platelets are the cells your body sends first to any injury site. Their job is to start repair.
A vampire facial creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin with a needling device, and delivers that concentrated plasma into and onto that freshly opened surface. The needling triggers a healing response; the PRP arrives in the middle of it.
What it is genuinely good at
Skin quality is the honest answer. Texture, fine crepiness, dullness, the general look of skin that has stopped repairing itself efficiently. Acne scarring responds over a planned course, particularly rolling and shallow boxcar scarring, and it is often combined with other modalities for that.
It is also popular with people who are cautious about products. There is no filler, no toxin and no synthetic material involved, and for some clients that is the deciding factor.
What it does not do
It does not lift or tighten meaningfully. It does not fill a hollow. It will not clear melasma or deep pigmentation, and aggressive treatment in melasma-prone skin can make pigment worse rather than better. If your main concern is pigment, laxity or volume, we will tell you that PRP is not the treatment that solves it, and we will show you what does.
Who this suits, and who it does not
It suits you if you want a regenerative, autologous approach, if your skin concern is quality and texture, and if you can commit to a course.
It does not suit you if you have a platelet or bleeding disorder, if you are on anticoagulants without clearance, or if you have an active infection, inflamed acne or a cold sore in the treatment area. We do not treat in pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are prone to keloid scarring, we will discuss that carefully before proceeding.
At the appointment
You are consented and photographed, then a blood sample is drawn from your arm by a registered nurse. While the sample is spinning, topical anaesthetic is applied to your face. Once it has taken effect, the skin is cleansed and treated with a sterile needling device at a depth chosen for the area, with the PRP applied throughout. Any remaining plasma is left on the skin at the end.
Afterwards
Expect redness and heat like a moderate sunburn, and possibly some tightness and flaking as the skin recovers. You will be asked to leave the skin free of makeup for a period, to avoid the gym, saunas and hot showers for a while, and to be strict with sun protection.
The visible improvement builds over weeks as collagen remodels, so we assess it at review appointments rather than immediately after a session.
If it is wrong for you, we say so before you book again. A nurse-practitioner-led clinic has a licence at stake. That is the whole reason we are careful - and the reason the honest answer sometimes is "not this, and not yet".

tell you no.
Every clinic lists who a treatment suits. This is the other half. If any of these is you, say so at the consultation and we will talk about what else might work, or about waiting.
- You have a platelet or bleeding disorder, or take anticoagulants without medical clearance.
- You have an active cold sore, infection or inflamed acne in the treatment area.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. We will plan the course for afterwards.
- Your concern is pigment, laxity or volume. PRP does not address any of the three.
- You faint at blood draws. Tell us when you book so we can plan the appointment.
- You have an event within the week. Expect redness like a moderate sunburn afterwards.

Nothing here happens on the same visit you first walk in, unless you want it to and it is right for you. This is the order we work in.

Consult
We look at what is actually bothering you, ask what you have tried, and tell you honestly whether this is the right treatment. Costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Plan
Your clinician maps the plan with you and agrees it before you commit to anything. The plan is signed off by our Medical Director before treatment begins.

Treatment
Your clinician carries out the plan exactly as it was agreed. You are told what is happening, where and why, before it starts - and the quoted price does not change on the chair.

Review
We see you again to check the result and adjust the plan for next time. The first appointment is the start of the plan, not the whole of it.

What is a vampire facial?
It is microneedling performed with platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood on the day of treatment. A small blood sample is taken, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the resulting plasma is applied to the skin as it is being needled and sometimes injected. The nickname comes from how it looks, not from what it does.
Where does the PRP come from?
From you, on the day, in this clinic. A blood draw is taken from your arm by a registered nurse, processed in a closed system, and used immediately. Nothing is stored and nothing comes from a donor. That autologous element is the reason allergic reaction to the plasma itself is not a concern.
How is this different from plain microneedling?
The needling component is the same. The difference is what is being driven into the channels and left on the skin afterwards. Plain microneedling relies entirely on your skin's own wound-healing cascade; PRP adds a concentrated dose of your own growth factors on top of it. Whether that difference is worth the extra cost for you depends on your skin and your goals, and we will give you an honest opinion rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.
What does it help with?
It is used for overall skin quality, fine texture, acne scarring and general dullness, and it is often chosen by people who want a regenerative approach rather than a device-heavy one. It does not lift, it does not fill and it does not remove deep pigmentation.
Does the blood draw hurt more than the treatment?
For most people the draw is the easiest part and the needling is the part they notice. Topical anaesthetic is applied before needling. If you are needle-anxious or have fainted at blood draws before, tell us when you book so we can plan the appointment properly rather than discovering it on the chair.
What do I look like afterwards?
Red and warm, similar to a sunburn, with the redness settling over the following day or two. Some pinpoint bleeding during treatment is normal and expected. You will be asked to leave the skin bare for a period, to avoid makeup, heat and exercise for a while, and to use sun protection.
How many treatments will I need?
It is planned as a course, because collagen remodelling is cumulative and one session will not resolve texture or scarring. We will set out the number we think you need and the total cost at consultation rather than adding sessions afterwards.
Who should not have it?
We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection, inflamed acne or an active cold sore outbreak, or in people with certain blood disorders, low platelet counts or those on anticoagulants without medical clearance. If you are on isotretinoin or have a history of keloid scarring, tell us at consultation because it changes the plan.
