The treatment we recommend most often for people who are not sure where to start
A HydraFacial is not a corrective treatment and we do not present it as one. It is a very good, very consistent deep cleanse and hydration, delivered by a device rather than by hand, that leaves your skin looking better the same day and asks nothing from you afterwards.
That combination is genuinely useful. It is what we suggest for someone who has never had anything done and is nervous, someone with a wedding or a photograph coming up, someone whose skin is congested and dull rather than damaged, and someone maintaining the result of a stronger treatment.
What the device actually does
The handpiece works on a vortex principle. Fluid is delivered onto the skin through a spiral tip while suction simultaneously draws it, and whatever it has loosened, away. Nothing is left sitting on the surface.
That runs in stages. First a cleanse and gentle mechanical resurfacing of dead surface cells. Then a mild acid solution to loosen the bonds holding sebum and debris in the pores. Then extraction, done by vacuum rather than by pressing on the skin, which is why it is far kinder to inflamed skin than manual extractions. Finally an infusion of hydrating and antioxidant serums while the skin is at its most receptive.
Targeted boosters can be added at the infusion stage for a specific concern.
Who this suits
Congested, dull, dehydrated or blackhead-prone skin. Teenagers and adults with mild congestion who need somewhere sensible to start. People with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate a peel. Anyone who wants a visible improvement with a hard deadline and no recovery.
It is also a good regular maintenance treatment between stronger interventions, and it works comfortably alongside injectables, though not on the same day in the same area.
Where we will tell you it is not enough
If you have active inflammatory or cystic acne, a facial is not the treatment that resolves it, and a course of them will not either. If you have significant pigmentation, it will look brighter afterwards but the pigment will still be there. If you have wrinkles, scarring or laxity, a HydraFacial does not touch any of them.
We would rather say this at the counter than have you spend a year on facials for a problem that needed something else. Where a stronger treatment is the right answer, we will name it.
At the appointment
Your skin is cleansed and assessed. The stages are worked through in sequence, area by area, with the aesthetician adjusting suction and tip choice for sensitivity and for how congested each zone is. Extractions concentrate on the nose, chin and anywhere else that needs them.
Afterwards
Your skin will feel clean and hydrated and may look slightly pink for a short period. There is no peeling and no recovery, but you should still wear sun protection, and it is sensible to avoid strong actives such as retinoids for a day or so.
If your skin is very congested, you may notice a small purge in the following days as loosened material clears. That is expected, and it is a reason to book your first one before rather than on the day of something important.
If it is wrong for you, we say so before you book again. A nurse-practitioner-led clinic has a licence at stake. That is the whole reason we are careful - and the reason the honest answer sometimes is "not this, and not yet".

Every clinic lists who a treatment suits. This is the other half. If any of these is you, say so at the consultation and we will talk about what else might work, or about waiting.
- You have active inflammatory or cystic acne. A facial will not resolve it.
- Your concern is wrinkles, scarring or laxity. A HydraFacial does not touch any of them.
- You have significant pigmentation. Your skin will look brighter, but the pigment stays put.
- You have an active cold sore, open lesion, sunburn or eczema in the area.
- You had a peel, laser or resurfacing recently. Tell us so we can time it properly.

Nothing here happens on the same visit you first walk in, unless you want it to and it is right for you. This is the order we work in.

Consult
We look at what is actually bothering you, ask what you have tried, and tell you honestly whether this is the right treatment. Costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Plan
Your clinician maps the plan with you and agrees it before you commit to anything. The plan is signed off by our Medical Director before treatment begins.

Treatment
Your clinician carries out the plan exactly as it was agreed. You are told what is happening, where and why, before it starts - and the quoted price does not change on the chair.

Review
We see you again to check the result and adjust the plan for next time. The first appointment is the start of the plan, not the whole of it.

What is a HydraFacial?
It is a facial performed with a device that uses a spiral tip and controlled suction to do four things in sequence: loosen and lift dead surface skin, deliver a mild chemical exfoliation, extract debris from pores by vacuum rather than by squeezing, and infuse hydrating and antioxidant serums. It is a maintenance treatment, not a corrective one.
Is there any downtime?
No, and that is the main reason people choose it. Most people leave with skin that looks slightly flushed and considerably cleaner, and go straight back to their day. It is the treatment we suggest when someone wants to look well for something on the weekend and cannot risk peeling or redness.
Will one HydraFacial clear my acne?
No. A HydraFacial helps with congestion, blackheads and dull, clogged skin, and it is a useful part of an acne routine, but active inflammatory acne needs a proper plan rather than a facial. If that is what we see, we will tell you what it will realistically do for you and what else needs to happen alongside it.
How is it different from a chemical peel?
A HydraFacial works mostly on the surface and is designed to leave you looking better immediately, with no shedding. A medical-grade peel deliberately creates a controlled injury at a chosen depth, so it does more, and it makes you flake or peel afterwards. Different jobs. Many people use HydraFacial for maintenance between peels.
Does it hurt?
No, and most people find it genuinely pleasant. The main sensation is the suction of the handpiece moving across the skin, described most often as a slight tugging. Extractions on congested areas such as the nose can feel a little more insistent.
Can I have it before an event?
Yes, and it is one of the few treatments we are happy to do close to an event. Even so, if it is your first one, book it a few days before rather than the same morning, because congested skin can occasionally purge slightly after a deep clean.
Can boosters be added?
Yes, targeted serums can be added to the infusion step for concerns such as pigmentation, congestion or dehydration. We will recommend what fits your skin rather than defaulting to the most expensive option, and we will tell you when a booster is unlikely to make a meaningful difference to what you are treating.
Who should not have a HydraFacial?
We avoid treating over active cold sores, open lesions, severe inflammatory or cystic acne, active eczema or sunburn in the area. If you have recently had a peel, laser or resurfacing treatment, or you are on isotretinoin, tell us so we can time it appropriately or postpone.
