Botox Innisfil

Which is right for me: Dysport or Botox?

The two treatments seem similar at first glance. With their active ingredient (Botulinum Type A), both medicines reduce wrinkles. There are a few specific reasons why your therapist will recommend one method over the other.

Botox is produced by Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium. Botox or Botulinum Type A used in controlled amounts can reduce or eliminate wrinkles. The injectables block the nerve signals travelling from the muscles in the face to the brain. If it is administered by a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, Botox is considered safe and effective.

Botox prevents the muscles in the face from contracting freely because it blocks nerve signals. Because of this lack of movement, the skin is smoothed out and wrinkles are significantly reduced. A neuromodulator made from Botulinum type A was first approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2009. It has since become a pioneer in injectable treatments. A variety of medical conditions can also be treated with Botox.

Dysport and Botox differ most significantly in terms of concentration. With a split of almost 3 to 1, Dysport is more diluted than Botox. A specialist may need to use more product in one area than another, depending on where the injectable is being injected. Obviously, it’s easy to believe that Dysport will be less expensive than Botox, but this isn’t true. Each Dysport treatment costs significantly less than Botox treatment. Because there are more units in each treatment than in Botox, the price per treatment is about the same.

Why Dysport®?

Botulinum type A, which is the active ingredient in Botox, is also a component of Dysport. When Dysport is injected, the nerves surrounding the injection site become inactive. Consequently, the muscles around the injection site relax and the skin around the area becomes smoother. Dysport targets moderate to severe forehead lines and glabellar lines, also known as frown lines and 11 lines. It is likely that your board-certified dermatologist has access to both products and can even use them on different parts of your face.

Dysport spreads more quickly, especially over a larger surface area, after just a few injections. Thus, the difference really comes down to how your doctor applies each injectable. In some cases, the doctor will use them both:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles can be smoothed with Botox. Slow-moving and with a high concentration, it is ideal for these small spaces.
  • Dysport will be effective on more extensive areas, including the forehead and 11 lines. Dysport injectables spread quickly and evenly.
Due to their different dilutions, both can be used safely for a similar price.

Are there any differences with the procedures?

Both Dysport and Botox are administered in exactly the same way. During the initial consultation, your dermatologist will assess the wrinkles on your face, check your current medical history, and come up with an appropriate treatment plan. Sometimes, Dysport and Botox are applied at the same time.

Botox and Dysport are noninvasive procedures that sometimes take less than 30 minutes to complete. Oftentimes, patients get their injections during their lunch break. Injections have a shorter recovery time and high success rate compared to invasive procedures.

What are the differences in effectiveness?

With both injectables, you can effectively reduce the signs of ageing. According to a 2019 study, 88% of patients were very satisfied with the results after just 30 days. An additional treatment is necessary after the effect of Dysport has worn off, typically after 3 to 4 months.

The effects of Botox injections can last anywhere from four to six months. Botox tends to last longer in smaller areas, such as the eyes and lips. The neuromodulator will degrade over time into simple proteins that are absorbed by the body. Your muscles will begin to move again (but with fewer wrinkles), making it a good time to schedule your next appointment.

The Procedure

Once the injection sites have been marked off, the doctor will numb the affected area with a topical anaesthetic. The Botox or Dysport will then be injected into the appropriate areas. Sometimes, Dysport injections may go deeper than Botox injections. The deeper shot helps to cover the wider treatment areas. After checking your skin for any issues, you may leave. Among the simple do’s and don’ts your doctor will give you are:

    • A minimum of 48 hours without alcohol.
    • Avoid massaging your face or injection areas to prevent spreading the neuromodulator to other areas.

    • Do not exercise or do anything strenuous for at least four hours after the injection.

    • Stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours following the injection.

    • Do not lay down for 3 hours following the injection.

You’ll begin to notice changes in your wrinkles and overall appearance in the next few days.
